It is constructed as a mini top hat with a tall crown in the form of a tube, and surrounded by a short, upturned brim which is covered in a brown grosgrain band. there is another brown grosgrain band around the top of the crown. Both bands end in small bows at the back. there is an elastic band to hold the hat in a tilted position. The ‘Toy’ or ‘Doll’ hat was a very small hat that perched on the very front of the forehead Tilt hats were popular in the 1930s and 1940s. They were worn at an angle and held to the back of the head by a strap, rigid ring, elastic band beneath the hair, or a combination of these. There is no label, indicating it was a custom-made creation. This is an authentic piece of fashion history!
